Camp Rock was the 73rd Disney Channel Original Movie (DCOM) produced by the network.

The film was shot between September and October 2007 at YMCA Camp Wanakita in Haliburton, Ontario, and Kilcoo Camp in Minden, Ontario.

Camp Rock premiered with 8.9 million viewers, making it the third highest-viewed DCOM of all time behind High School Musical 2 and Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie.

According to Billboard, the film attracted an audience of 146 million viewers across 160 nations and 30 languages.

The film's premiere in Canada became Family Channel's second-most-watched film ever, behind High School Musical, drawing 848,000 viewers.

The Camp Rock soundtrack peaked at number 3 on the US Billboard 200 and was certified Platinum by the RIAA after selling over a million copies in the United States.

The Blu-ray and DVD release, titled Camp Rock: Extended Rock Star Edition, included an extended ending featuring an additional musical number, 'Our Time Is Here'.

The film inspired 'My Camp Rock,' an international singing competition with five editions (Scandinavian, Spanish, Benelux, French, and British) where fans could compete by submitting videos of themselves singing 'This Is Me' and 'We Rock.'

A sequel, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, was filmed in Ontario, Canada, from September 3 to October 16, 2009, at locations including the French River, Kilcoo Camp, The Kingbridge Centre, and Earl Bales Park, and became the last DCOM sequel until Teen Beach 2 in 2015.

Camp Rock 3 entered production in September 2025 with Demi Lovato as executive producer and the Jonas Brothers and Maria Canals-Barrera reprising their roles; principal photography began September 15, 2025, in Vancouver, Canada, and wrapped on November 1.
