The film is directed by brothers Paul Weitz and Chris Weitz, who co-wrote the screenplay with Peter Hedges, adapting Nick Hornby's 1998 novel of the same name.

Casting

The role of Will Freeman marked a notable physical transformation for Hugh Grant, then 41, who lost weight and abandoned his trademark floppy hairstyle for a more mature, cropped look.

Reception

In December 2002, the American Film Institute chose the film as one of the ten best movies of the year, and Hugh Grant was named Best British Actor by the London Film Critics Circle and one of GQ's men of the year 2002.
