The Crocodiles Strike Back

Unlike its 2009 predecessor, which was based on Max von der Grün's children's novel Vorstadtkrokodile, this sequel is not based on any literary source material.

The film was shot in 2009 at various locations including Cologne, Dortmund, Duisburg, Hückelhoven, Solingen, the Kleinenbremen show mine, and Porta Westfalica.

Unlike the first film, all stunts in this sequel were performed by the actual actors themselves without the use of stunt doubles, with one exception: a scene where Hannes and Maria are chased by one of the Boller brothers while climbing high steel girders.

The disappearance of gang member Elvis from the first film is explained by his being sent away to a boarding school after a graffiti incident.

A continuity inconsistency is left unaddressed: the paraplegic character Kai received a handbike at the end of the first film, but in this sequel he is seen using a different adaptive bike, which is nevertheless still referred to as a 'handbike' throughout.

The opening scene of the film contains references that critics identified as allusions to Indiana Jones.

The soundtrack features songs by artists such as Virginia Jetzt!, Apollo 3, Salt 'n' Pepa, Tom Gäbel, Bakkushan and Killerpilze, with the title song 'Dieses Ende wird ein Anfang sein' performed by Virginia Jetzt! and the single 'Unsterblich' by Luxuslärm; instrumental pieces were composed by Heiko Maile.

The film received mixed reviews, with some critics like Walli Müller praising it as good entertainment for children over ten, while others such as Natália Wiedmann found it less accomplished than its predecessor, though they acknowledged its more mature handling of themes like unemployment and Hartz IV welfare through the character developments, especially involving Maria and the introduction of Jenny.
