Filming

Filming was halted for two months after Patrick Swayze fell off a horse in May 1997 and hit a tree, breaking both legs and detaching four tendons in his shoulder.

Reception

Following the accident, Swayze reportedly struggled to resume his acting career after the film's eventual release.

Filming

The film was shot across numerous locations including Utah (Echo, Jordanelle Reservoir, Salt Lake City), California (Fair Oaks, Ione, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Woodland, Glendora), Nevada (Reno, Wendover), and New Orleans, Louisiana.

Origins

This was the feature film directorial debut of David Carson, who had previously worked primarily as a TV director.

Reception

Despite a relatively high budget of 30 million dollars for a small film, the movie was seen as marking Swayze's 'free fall to the B division' according to the Filmjaarboek 1999 review.

References

The film has been cited as an example of a 1990s Hollywood trend of productions centered on the death penalty theme.
