Lady Vengeance concludes Park Chan-wook's 'Vengeance Trilogy', which began with Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) and continued with Oldboy (2003), and actors from the previous films make special appearances.

Before the leading role went to Lee Young-ae, several actresses such as Ko Doo-shim, Ko Hyun-jung and Kim Hee-sun had been considered to play Lee Geum-ja, without it coming to fruition.

The role of Geun-shik was initially supposed to go to Yoon Kye-sang, but he had to withdraw due to his sudden conscription for military service.

Song Kang-ho and Shin Ha-kyun, main actors of the two previous installments of the Vengeance Trilogy, appear in short roles as assassins as a nod.

The main theme of the film is inspired by Vivaldi's cantata Cessate, omai cessate, notably the aria Ah ch'infelice sempre, and the orchestral score also draws on Vivaldi concertos and Paganini's Caprice No. 24, arranged in an elegant baroque style.

The soundtrack was composed by Jo Yeong-wook, who had already composed the music for the previous films in the trilogy, with additional pieces signed by Choi Seung-hyeon.

The film was presented in competition at the 2005 Venice Film Festival, where it won the Young Lion Award, the prize for the most innovative film and the prize for cinema of the future.

In November 2009, British newspaper The Times ranked the film 97th on its list of the best films of the 2000-2009 decade.
