James Marsden replaced Tobey Maguire and Miles Bakshi as the voice of Tim Templeton, while Ariana Greenblatt replaced Nina Zoe Bakshi as Tabitha, both of whom voiced the character in the first film.

The sequel was announced on May 25, 2017, just months after the release of the first Boss Baby film, with an initial release date of March 26, 2021, and Alec Baldwin already confirmed to reprise his role.
