AAA - The Movie

The film is a fictionalization of the real Mexican professional wrestling organization Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, and is only the second Mexican animated film in the lucha libre film genre, after Los Campeones de la Lucha Libre, a genre popularized by movies starring icons like El Santo and Blue Demon.

It was the fourth feature film produced by Ánima Estudios and the sixth overall, marking the first time the studio produced a film for another company on commission (Promociones Antonio Peña).

The animation work was outsourced to Boulder Media, a studio based in Ireland.

The film's theatrical release was originally planned for October 2009 but was postponed to early 2010.

Several real AAA wrestlers voiced fictionalized versions of themselves in the film, including Cibernético, El Zorro, Konnan and El Mesías, making them the only AAA-affiliated wrestlers who played their own characters.

Real sports commentators Arturo Rivera and Alfonso Morales appear in the film voicing themselves.

Director Alberto 'Chino' Rodríguez also lent his voice to the film, playing a 1970s ring announcer as well as a mysterious character referred to only as the 'hombre misterioso'.

The film was dedicated to the memory of wrestler Abismo Negro, who died on March 21, 2009, during the movie's production, and also to AAA founder Antonio Peña, who passed away on October 5, 2006.

AAA, la película: Sin límite en el tiempo was released on January 22, 2010 by Videocine Distribución to mixed reviews and a low box office performance in Mexico.
