When considering taking a few weeks off, Dr. Rainville places an ad to find a replacement who would agree to take his place in Normétal, in Abitibi. Jeanne Dion from Montreal accepts the offer and goes to the site, where it comes into contact with old customers and the lonely doctor. The problems of the inhabitants of the small community are varied, but Jeanne adapts well to her new environment. When Dr. Rainville was struck by a heart attack, he must still be replaced some time. Origins

The Legacy (La Donation) is the third and final part of a trilogy about the theological virtues directed by Bernard Émond, following The Novena (2005) about faith and Summit Circle (2007) about hope, this installment focusing on charity.

Casting

The character of Dr. Jeanne Dion, played by Élise Guilbault, was also the central character in the first film of the trilogy, The Novena, linking the two stories together.

Reception

The film won the Special Grand Prize of the Youth Jury and the Don Quixote Award at the Locarno International Film Festival.

Reception

The Legacy competed at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2009, where it received the award for Best Canadian Feature Film - Special Jury Citation.

Reception

The film also received the Prix Communications et société in 2009 at the Festival du cinéma international en Abitibi-Témiscamingue.
