Trivia & behind the scenes

/
Origins

In the film's early development stages, producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer initially envisioned Dana Carvey and Jon Lovitz for the lead roles, and the project was then titled 'Bulletproof Hearts'.

Origins

The film was originally set up at Hollywood Pictures, a Walt Disney Studios subsidiary, but was placed into turnaround by management and eventually sold to Columbia Pictures.

Casting

Arsenio Hall turned down the role of Mike Lowrey, a decision he later called the worst mistake of his career; the part eventually went to Will Smith.

Filming

The Miami setting replaced the story's original New York locale, with filming taking place at spots like the Dade Tire company, South Beach's Tides Hotel, the Biltmore Hotel, and a freighter on the Miami River converted into a fake drug lab.

Filming

Since both Martin Lawrence and Will Smith were simultaneously starring in their own hit sitcoms ('Martin' and 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air'), filming had to be completed quickly, wrapping on August 31, 1994, after starting on June 27.

Filming

The film's opening sequence was actually written and shot during post-production, after principal photography had already wrapped.

Filming

Director Michael Bay disliked the original script and frequently let Smith and Lawrence improvise their dialogue on camera, including the convenience store scene where the clerk yells 'Freeze, mother bitches!' and the duo's ad-libbed response about Tropical Fruit Bubbalicious and Skittles.

Filming

Bay secretly instructed Will Smith to call Martin Lawrence a 'bitch' before the car scene to provoke an unscripted reaction, and lines like 'two bitches in the sea' were improvised on the spot.

Filming

For the ending line 'I love you, man,' Smith reportedly refused to say it, leading to a half-day argument with Bay; Smith only agreed to deliver the line after Bay told him to do whatever he wanted.

La demostración de que las películas no necesitan guión. Bueno, al menos las de Michael Bay.
