We Are Lady Parts began as a 14-minute pilot that aired on 21 December 2018 as part of Channel 4's 'Comedy Blaps' strand, before being commissioned as a full six-episode series co-produced with Peacock.

All the actors in the show play their own instruments on screen, with some cast members having to learn a specific instrument especially in order to perform for the series.

The show's music, mixing original punk songs and covers, was scored by Shez Manzoor and written/adapted by creator Nida Manzoor together with her siblings Shez and Sanya Manzoor and Benni Fregin.

An album compiling all 15 songs from both series, including originals and covers, was released by Proper Music following the broadcast of series 2 in 2024.

Series 2 features cameo appearances from education activist Malala Yousafzai and comedian Meera Syal.

The finale of series 2 includes appearances from real-life musicians outside the main cast, such as Saima Khalid, Shez Manzoor, Lauriem Mompelat, Rasha Nahas and Elaha Soroor.

Series 1 received a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 48 critics and a score of 83 on Metacritic, both indicating widespread critical acclaim.

Creator Nida Manzoor won the Rose d'Or Emerging Talent Award in November 2021 for her work on the show, which has also received two Peabody Awards and Gotham Award nominations.
