Despite being cancelled after just one season, Nowhere Man received critical acclaim, with TV Guide labeling it 'This season's coolest hit.'

Although the main character travels from city to city across the United States chasing the conspiracy, all exterior scenes were actually filmed in Portland, Oregon, and many local landmarks appear in the background of various shots.

Series creator Larry Hertzog acknowledged that the show's themes were influenced by The Prisoner and The Fugitive.

The series also bears resemblances to The Manchurian Candidate, North by Northwest, 12 Monkeys, Three Days of the Condor, The X-Files, and the 1967 TV series Coronet Blue.

Reruns of the series later aired in the early 2000s on the Family Channel in Canada.
