The drama was planned as a project about a nine-tailed fox young man who settled in the city and a producer's haunted story hunting project chasing after him.

Instead of taking a break on November 18, 2020, a behind-the-scenes special titled 'Tale of the Nine-Tailed: 600 Years of Legend' was scheduled to allow production of the remaining 4 episodes.

From November 18 to December 4, a three-part spin-off 'Tale of the Nine-Tailed: Untold Stories' centered on Lee Rang and Ki Yu-ri aired.

Season 2 'Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938' with Lee Dong-wook and Kim Beom reprising their leading roles and Kim So-yeon joining as the new female lead premiered on May 6, 2023.

CJ ENM announced in 2021 the production of an animation based on the original work, produced by Studio Bazooka and directed by Seok Jong-seo, who directed the 'The Uncanny Counter' series, titled 'Tale of the Nine-Tailed: The Beginning of the Kite' and scheduled to be released on TVING in 2024.

The drama was filmed at Sangjok-am Jangsansa Cave, Korean Folk Village, Laveniche in Gimpo, and Seoul Meteorological Observatory.

The drama poster was unveiled by Lee Dong-wook and Cho Bo-ah on September 9, 2020, and was introduced with the phrase 'A fatal rhapsody of love'.
