Dizi is Netflix's second original series in Swedish; the first was Störst av allt (Quicksand), which aired in 2019. Both series were produced by the production company FLX.

The series was created by Lisa Langseth, who also served as head writer on the project, with screenplay written alongside Alex Haridi.

Various well-known Swedish cultural figures made brief guest appearances in their own roles; these included actress Lena Endre, journalist Åsa Beckman, and musician Stefan Lindberg.

The series received quite positive reviews from critics; on Rotten Tomatoes, 100% of comments from 7 critics were positive and the average score was set at 8.0/10.

Debi Enker from The Age newspaper gave the first season four out of five stars, describing the series as 'laugh-out-loud, sexy and melancholic,' but noted that the final episode carried uncertainty about how the story would end.

Netflix announced in March 2021 that a second season would be filmed; the second season aired in spring 2022 and received mixed reviews.
