Apple TV+ ordered the series on October 15, 2020, with an initial commitment of 10 half-hour episodes.

The show was created by Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, who also serve as executive producers alongside stars Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen, plus Conor Welch.

Nicholas Stoller not only co-created the series but also directed it himself.

Filming for the first season began in May 2022 and took place in Los Angeles.

Rose Byrne was cast in an undisclosed starring role at the time the series order was announced, before the rest of the main cast was revealed.

Luke Macfarlane, Seth Rogen, Tre Hale, Carla Gallo, and Andrew Lopez joined the main cast on May 5, 2022, followed by recurring cast members Alisha Wainwright, Guy Branum, Janet Varney, Emily Kimball, and Vinny Thomas on June 29, 2022.

For the second season, Saturday Night Live alumni Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, and Beck Bennett joined the cast in recurring roles, announced on September 18, 2024.

The first season holds a 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 75 on Metacritic, while the second season improved to a 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating and a Metacritic score of 81, indicating 'universal acclaim'.
