/
Origins

The series began as a pilot ordered by HBO Max in February 2020, with creator Ellen Rapoport writing and executive producing alongside Paul Feig and Dan Magnante of Feigco Entertainment.

Origins

Rachel Lee Goldenberg, director of Unpregnant, was brought on to direct and executive produce the pilot in September 2020, and HBO Max later gave the project a full series order of ten half-hour episodes in April 2021.

Casting

Jake Johnson was originally cast only in a guest role before being promoted to the main cast.

Casting

Taylor Zakhar Perez played firefighter Shane and described the challenge of the role as grounding the character and making him likable while playing against certain lines.

Filming

Filming for the pilot began on December 6, 2020, in Los Angeles.

Reception

HBO Max canceled the show in December 2022 as part of cost-cutting tax write-offs following the merger of Discovery, Inc. and WarnerMedia, even though production on season two was nearly complete at the time.

Filming

Despite the HBO Max cancellation, filming for season two continued and star Ophelia Lovibond announced that production had wrapped on December 18, 2022.

Trivia

After being dropped by HBO Max, the series was picked up by Starz in January 2023, which aired both the previously released first season and the unaired second season.
