The Naked Truth is an American sitcom broadcast on ABC from 1995 to 1996, and on NBC from 1996 to 1998. The series stars Téa Leoni and Holland Taylor. After a messy divorce with her very rich and powerful husband, Nora Wilde refuses to accept his offer of $1.8 million and tries to make it on her own. Being a Pulitzer nominated photographer, the only place that even considers hiring her is sleazy tabloid The Comet. She's forced to accept and starts as a regular papparazzo.

Origins

The series was initially greenlit by ABC under the working title 'Wilde Again' before its premiere, but the name was changed back to 'The Naked Truth' due to concerns it sounded too similar to NBC's recently canceled show 'Something Wilder'.

Reception

Despite ranking at #25 with an 11.4 rating on ABC, the show was still canceled after just one season.

Reception

When the series moved to NBC for its second season, its ranking jumped dramatically to #4 with a 16.8 rating, only to plummet to #74 in its third and final season, leading to cancellation.

Casting

The show underwent major cast changes across its three seasons: Mary Tyler Moore replaced Dyan Cannon as Nora's mother in season two, and much of the cast was overhauled again in season three when the setting shifted to a rival tabloid.

Trivia

The show's setting and tone changed dramatically between seasons: after moving networks, the outlandish, zany tabloid antics of season one were toned down, and characters like 'Stupid Dave' were simply renamed 'Dave' without his disability being referenced further.

In season three, several original characters vanished without explanation, including Chloe Banks and Mr. Donner, as Nora's living situation changed to a new apartment.
