The series was greenlit in August 2020 with a 10-episode order centered on Joseph Sikora's character Tommy Egan, making it the third spin-off of the original Power series created by Courtney A. Kemp.

Creator Robert Munic originally served as showrunner but left the position in July 2021 citing creative differences; Courtney A. Kemp, who oversees the entire Power franchise, took over as showrunner.

For the second season, Gary Lennon joined as the new showrunner starting in March 2022.

Eight actors were added as series regulars in February 2021: Lili Simmons, Gabrielle Ryan, Isaac Keys, Shane Harper, Kris D. Lofton, Anthony Fleming III, Lucien Cambric and Tommy Flanagan.

Singer Jeremih joined the cast in a recurring role starting in May 2021.

Michael Rainey Jr., who plays Tariq St. Patrick in the original Power series, joined the main cast of Force for its third and final season.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the first season holds a 100% approval rating with an average score of 7/10, based on 5 reviews.

The show was renewed for a third season in December 2023, but in June 2024 it was announced that this third season would be the series' final one, which premiered on November 7, 2025.
