Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! is an American sketch comedy television series, created by and starring Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, which premiered February 11, 2007 on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim comedy block and ran until May 2010. The program features surrealistic and often satirical humor, public-access television–style musical acts, bizarre faux-commercials, and editing and special effects chosen to make the show appear camp. The program featured a wide range of actors, spanning from stars such as Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, David Cross, Bob Odenkirk, Will Forte and Zach Galifianakis, to alternative comedians like Neil Hamburger, to television actors like Alan Thicke, celebrity look-alikes and impressionists. The creators of the show have described it as "the nightmare version of television."

Origins

The show expands on the live-action segments featured in Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim's previous series, Tom Goes to the Mayor, carrying over characters like Gibbons and the Cinco Corporation.

Casting

The cast mixed famous regulars like Zach Galifianakis, John C. Reilly, and Bob Odenkirk with amateur actors and non-actors recruited from Craigslist, giving the sketches a deliberately amateurish feel.

The character Dr. Steve Brule, played by John C. Reilly, was popular enough that Reilly himself came up with the idea of spinning him off into his own full show, Check It Out!

References

The duo unconsciously started a tradition of opening the first episode of seasons two, three, and four with fecal-related fake commercials, and planned to top it in season five with a 'diarrhea disease' commercial.

Trivia

The Abso Lutely Productions sign-off bumper uses a real video clip of Tim Heidecker's father from a 1991 family vacation, in which he sums up the trip in two words: 'Abso-lutely.'

Filming

Portions of the live telethon spoof 'Muscles for Bones,' performed at the Troubadour nightclub in West Hollywood, were incorporated into the season 3 episode 'Muscles for Bones,' with an extended version included as a DVD extra.

Music

The show's theme music was composed by Davin Wood, who also scored Tom Goes to the Mayor and later Tim and Eric projects like Derek & Simon and Check It Out! with Dr. Steve Brule.

Origins

A planned spin-off game show starring Neil Hamburger, titled The New Big Ball with Neil Hamburger and described as a mix of bizarre Japanese game shows and The Price Is Right, had a pilot filmed but was ultimately rejected by Adult Swim.
