Young Royals

The series was first announced in July 2020 as an untitled coming-of-age project created by Lisa Ambjörn, Lars Beckung and Camilla Holter, with Rojda Sekersöz set to direct.

In January 2021, Edvin Ryding, Pernilla August, Malte Gårdinger, Frida Argento, Nikita Uggla and Omar Rudberg were announced as the starring cast, with Ryding playing Prince Wilhelm and August playing his mother, Queen Kristina.

The series was mostly filmed at Kaggeholms gård, a manor-style building in Stockholm County that normally operates as a conference center, while scenes set at the royal palace were filmed at Stora Sundby Castle.

Filming for the second season took place from February to May 2022, and filming for the third and final season ran from April to June 2023.

For the international release, lead actors Edvin Ryding and Omar Rudberg re-recorded their own lines for the English dub version of the show.

On 15 December 2022, Ryding and Rudberg made their US television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote the series and its third, final season.

The first season was streamed for more than 9.8 million hours worldwide and ranked among Netflix's top 10 non-English series in 12 countries, while the second season reached the top 10 in 26 countries with over 18 million hours streamed in its first week.

Critics praised Young Royals for casting actors who actually looked their teenage age and for realistically depicting skin blemishes and textures, with the show holding a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on five reviews.
