Origins

Chapelwaite is loosely based on Stephen King's short story 'Jerusalem's Lot' and was developed by Epix as a 10-episode straight-to-series order, with Peter and Jason Filardi writing and Donald De Line producing.

Casting

Adrien Brody was cast in the lead role of Captain Charles Boone in December 2019, followed by Emily Hampshire joining as Rebecca Morgan in March 2020.

Filming

The series was originally set to begin filming in April 2020 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, but production was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ultimately starting on July 5, 2020.

Reception

The show was renewed for a second season in February 2022, but in November 2023 MGM+ announced it would not move forward with that second season, ending the series after one season.

Reception

On Rotten Tomatoes, Chapelwaite received a 60% approval rating from critics with an average score of 6.20/10, with the consensus noting it offers atmosphere and some frights despite feeling stretched over ten episodes.
