Announced in August 2019, this was Marvel Animation's first preschool series and the first full-length Marvel animated show targeted specifically at young audiences.

Several voice actors reprise roles from other Marvel projects: Sandra Saad as Ms. Marvel from the 2020 Avengers video game, Roger Craig Smith as Captain America from Marvel's Avengers Assemble, and Trevor Devall as Rocket Raccoon from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and Marvel Super Hero Adventures.

Diamond White and Fred Tatasciore reprise their roles as Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur respectively from the series Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur (2023–2025) when the characters crossed over into this show.

Patrick Stump of the pop punk band Fall Out Boy wrote, composed, and performed the series' theme song, drawing inspiration from themes used in previous Spider-Man media as a longtime Marvel fan.

The first 68 episodes used only an instrumental version of the opening theme; starting with episode 69, a new ending theme titled 'Do the Spidey' was introduced, co-written by Patrick Stump and series story writer Harrison Willcox and performed by Stump.

The character Web-Beard, an old pirate who comes alive in the episode 'The Return of Web-Beard' voiced by David Tennant, is unrelated to a previous character of the same name that appeared in the Ultimate Spider-Man episode 'Return to the Spider-Verse,' voiced by Will Friedle.

The Electrosaurus transformation of the villain Electro features a retractable neck frill, a visual reference to the Dilophosaurus from the Jurassic Park franchise.

In late 2024, the series was the second most-watched streaming show among children aged 2–5 according to Nielsen Media Research, surpassing other major preschool franchises like Paw Patrol and Cocomelon, and it has amassed over 2 billion views on YouTube and over 1 billion hours watched on Disney+ and linear TV in the US.

In October 2022, the series became the first show based on a Disney property to premiere on the UK children's channel CBeebies.

In June 2025, the show was renewed for a sixth season, making it the first animated series from both Marvel and Disney Jr. to exceed six seasons, surpassing Avengers Assemble, Doc McStuffins, and Puppy Dog Pals, which each had five seasons.
