Netflix officially announced the production of the series via a press release on July 21, 2021. The series is a satire of Korean society regarding people's hopes of raising their status by marrying or remarrying into the upper class.

The series was produced in co-production by Image9 Communications and Tiger Studio; it was directed by Kim Jeong-min and written by Lee Geun-yeong.

Filming began on July 25, 2021, after a script reading session held on July 6, 2021.

The participation of Kim Hee-sun, Lee Hyun-wook, Jung Yoo-jin, Park Hoon, and Cha Ji-yeon in the main cast was officially confirmed in July 2021.

On Rotten Tomatoes, 83% of 6 critics gave the series a positive review, and the average score was set at 6.4 out of 10.

Pierce Conran from South China Morning Post gave the series 2.5 out of 5 stars, praising Jung Yoo-jin's cold and calculating villain performance, and also appreciating cinematographer Jo Yeon-soo's fluid camera work; however, he noted that despite the story being shorter than half of other prime-time series, it progressed very slowly and remained static until the final episodes.
