Trivia & behind the scenes

/
Origins

The 2022 Rebelde series is a sequel to the 2004-2006 Mexican telenovela Rebelde, which was itself a remake of the Argentine telenovela Rebelde Way, and this new version is the fifth iteration of the franchise produced worldwide.

Filming

Filming for the series began in March 2021 in Mexico City.

Casting

In May 2021, actor Sergio Mayer Mori apologized to his castmates and followers after making controversial statements admitting he hated the band RBD, the group originating from the original Rebelde telenovela to which the new series serves as a sequel.

Music

The official soundtrack, released the same day as the series' premiere on January 5, 2022, features covers of songs by RBD, José José, Danny Ocean, Zoé, Jesse & Joy, Britney Spears, Selena and Beret, alongside four original tracks written specifically for the show: 'Pensando en ti', 'Este sentimiento', 'Volver a mí' and 'No soy'.

Music

The song 'Rebelde' served as the lead single and promotional track for the show, and is the only song on the soundtrack to feature the entire main cast singing together.

Music

The single 'Salva-me (Balada Portuguesa)' was released after the show's premiere and was not included on the official soundtrack album.

Reception

The series was renewed for a second season just four days after its premiere, on 9 January 2022, during a virtual Netflix event, with season two releasing on 27 July 2022.

Reception

Despite the quick renewal, Netflix announced the cancellation of the series after only two seasons, in May 2023.
