Partner Track is based on Helen Wan's 2013 novel of the same name, with Wan set to serve as a consultant for the television adaptation.

Netflix ordered ten episodes of the series on September 14, 2021, with Georgia Lee developing the show and serving as co-showrunner alongside Sarah Goldfinger.

The series was filmed in New York, and several directors including Julie Anne Robinson, Tanya Wexler, Kevin Berlandi, Lily Mariye, and Charles Randolph-Wright worked on different episodes, with Robinson directing the first two.

The main cast, including Arden Cho, Bradley Gibson, Alexandra Turshen, Nolan Gerard Funk, Dominic Sherwood, Rob Heaps, and Matthew Rauch, was announced at the same time as the series order in September 2021.

Desmond Chiam and Tehmina Sunny joined the cast in recurring roles on October 29, 2021, followed by Lena Ahn on December 20, 2021.

Rotten Tomatoes gave the series a 62% approval rating based on 13 critic reviews, while Metacritic scored it 45 out of 100 based on 4 critics, indicating mixed reviews.

Between August 21 and September 11, 2022, the show was watched for 66.01 million hours globally.

Netflix canceled Partner Track after just one season on November 8, 2022, less than three months after its premiere.
