The series was created and written by Michael Hirst, who also served as executive producer, and was originally greenlit by Epix as an eight-episode first season.

Casting

Tom Blyth was cast in the title role in May 2021, followed by Daniel Webber as Jesse Evans in August 2021.

Principal photography took place in and around Calgary, Alberta, Canada, standing in for the 19th-century American Old West.
