In episode 8 of season three, Flashpoint character Michaelangelo 'Spike' Scarlatti made a crossover appearance in a brief scene, interacting with Osman 'Oz' Bey at a hospital.

Production on the pilot season began in spring 2008, with the pilot episode directed by Clement Virgo.

The second season's production was delayed and began in September 2010, ending in February 2011, and came with major behind-the-scenes changes, including a complete replacement of the writing staff, with Michael Amo and Dennis Heaton being replaced by Jason Sherman and Wil Zmak.

Star Craig Olejnik described season two as more mature and noted the show shifted away from its season-one mysterious sci-fi/conspiracy tone toward a straightforward procedural format, with Colm Feore's character being written out and Toby's search for his mother largely abandoned.

Fox International Channels premiered the series simultaneously in over 180 territories in the first week of March 2009, making it the first-ever global television premiere, occurring three months before its Canadian and U.S. premieres.

NBC pulled the show off the air in the U.S. after only 7 of the 13 season-one episodes aired due to poor ratings, with the remaining episodes made available online via NBC.com and Hulu.

In the U.S., the series received mixed-to-negative reviews, holding a 31% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a Metacritic score of 42/100, while in Italy it grew its timeslot average by 470% and became the second-most watched show ever on Fox there.

In Australia, the series was pulled off the air twice due to low ratings before being purchased by SoHo, which aired the first three seasons.
