Origins

The series was based on the 2004 book of the same name by Imogen Edwards-Jones and produced by Carnival Films for BBC One.

Reception

The show was cancelled after its fourth series, leaving the series 4 finale cliffhanger unresolved.

Filming

A zoom out shot at the end of Series 1, Episode 4 reveals the fictional hotel's location as Cleveland House, 33 King Street, a short distance north of St. James's Park.

Casting

The show regularly attracted well-known actors and celebrities to appear as hotel guests, including Kelly Brook, who played Lady Catherine Stanwood in Series 2.

Reception

The series achieved high ratings of around 5 million viewers per episode, often beating competing ITV shows like Eleventh Hour, Footballers' Wives, and Ladette to Lady in the same time slot.

Reception

After Tamzin Outhwaite's departure at the end of series 2 the ratings held steady, but viewership declined from about 5 million to 4 million after Max Beesley left partway through series 3.

Music

A soundtrack album, Hotel Babylon: The Music, produced by Jim Williams and John Lunn, was released in March 2008, just days after the third episode of series three aired.

Trivia

Series One was released in high definition in the UK on both HD DVD (as a combo disc) and Blu-ray Disc on 5 November 2007.
