Netflix acquired the documentary in May 2021, which contained unreleased archival footage spanning two decades of Kanye West's music and fashion career, including the death of his mother Donda West and his unsuccessful 2020 presidential campaign.

According to Variety, Netflix paid around US$30 million to acquire the documentary.

The documentary's title, Jeen-Yuhs, was revealed by Netflix on September 25, 2021, ahead of its 2022 release.

The film is directed by Coodie & Chike and focuses on Kanye West's life while also giving attention to co-director Coodie Simmons himself.

The first episode, 'Vision,' premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival on January 23, 2022.

The documentary received a limited one-night theatrical release on February 10, 2022, timed to coincide with the eighteenth anniversary of Kanye West's debut album The College Dropout (2004).

The three episodes, titled 'Vision,' 'Purpose,' and 'Awakening,' were released weekly on Netflix starting February 16, 2022, with the final episode on March 2, 2022.

The renewed attention from the documentary caused Kanye West's debut album The College Dropout to re-chart on the Billboard 200, reaching as high as #11.
