The series is based on Clark Olofsson's autobiography 'Vafan var det som hände' and tells his life story from his youth to 1986, though director Jonas Åkerlund admitted it is 'very much Clark's perspective, made up and embellished.'

The show was filmed across Sweden, Croatia, and Lithuania.

Ahead of the premiere, a statue of Clark Olofsson was installed without official permission at Norrmalmstorg square, the site of the 1973 bank robbery that gave its name to the 'Norrmalmstorg syndrome.' The statue bore the inscription 'Dedicated to myself C O for heroic efforts at Kreditbanken in August 1973.'

Bill Skarsgård won the 2022 Kristallen award for Male Actor of the Year in a TV Production for his role in the series.

The series' music was composed by Mikael Åkerfeldt, frontman of the progressive metal band Opeth, who also makes a cameo appearance as an inmate in episode 2.

Tobias Forge, the singer and songwriter of the band Ghost, appears in a small role as a violinist in episode 6.

Amalie Bruun, known from the band Myrkur, plays a member of the revolutionary group in episode 5.

Episode four of the miniseries depicts the events of the real-life Norrmalmstorg robbery.

The series holds an 85% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics generally responding positively, though some reviews noted its breakneck pacing and shifting tone.
