Palm Royale is based on the 2018 novel Mr. & Mrs. American Pie by Juliet McDaniel.

The series was originally greenlit by Apple TV+ in February 2022 under the title Mrs. American Pie before being renamed Palm Royale in April 2023.

Kristen Wiig was attached to star from the project's earliest announcement, with Laura Dern signed on as executive producer and potential co-star.

Allison Janney, Leslie Bibb, Ricky Martin, and Josh Lucas joined the cast in May 2022, followed by Carol Burnett, Amber Chardae Robinson, Jordan Bridges, Kaia Gerber, and Julia Duffy in June 2022.

The show's development team made plot and writing decisions based on the cast that had been assembled.

Filming for the first season began in May 2022, while filming for the renewed second season started on October 9, 2024.

The first season received mixed reviews, holding a 56% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 57 on Metacritic.

The second season was received more favorably than the first, with a 64% Rotten Tomatoes approval rating and a Metacritic score of 69, before the series was cancelled in March 2026.
