Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye

The series is loosely based on the real-life experience of Sue Thomas, a deaf woman whose lip-reading expertise landed her a job with an elite FBI surveillance team; the show was originally titled 'Lip Service' before being renamed.

Although the show is set in Washington, D.C., nearly all episodes were actually filmed in and around Toronto, Canada, with only some exterior scenery shots taken elsewhere; more than half of the cast and crew were Canadian.

The real Sue Thomas, who served as a consultant on the series, made cameo appearances in two episodes ('Billy The Kid' and the finale), playing a deaf actress named Deanne, a playful parody of lead actress Deanne Bray, who is herself deaf.

Chantal Craig, the real-life wife of actor Yannick Bisson (who plays Jack Hudson), appeared in several episodes as recurring character Lt./Det. Diana Grove.

Recurring actor Troy Kotsur, who plays reformed car thief Troy Myers, is the real-life husband of lead actress Deanne Bray.

Sue's hearing dog Levi, a golden retriever, was portrayed by two dogs both named 'Jesse' on set, and the character was named after the real Sue Thomas's first actual service dog.

The dogs that played Levi were trained by Sherri Davis, who later also trained the German Shepherds portraying Rex in the Canadian series Hudson & Rex, which began airing in 2019.

The show's theme song, 'Who I Am,' was performed by Jessica Andrews and written by Brett James and Troy Verges.

Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye ended abruptly in May 2005 not due to poor ratings but because PAX decided to stop producing original programming altogether; it had been one of the network's two highest-rated shows alongside Doc.
