An intense fan campaign convinced UPN to renew the show for a fourth season of eight episodes so the story could be properly concluded.

Blair Sandburg's dissertation topic, the Sentinel, was inspired in-universe by a monograph written by explorer Sir Richard Francis Burton describing sentinels and their tribal partners.

Blair's companions at the police department gave him various nicknames, including 'Chief' from Jim, 'Hairboy' from detectives Rafe and Henri, and 'Sandy' from Megan Connor.

When Jim first meets Blair at the hospital, Blair is disguised in a stolen lab coat reading 'Doctor McCoy,' which Jim mishears as 'Doctor McKay.'
