State Trooper

State Trooper was originally conceived to compete with the popular series Highway Patrol.

The show's pilot, titled 'Killer on a Horseback' (also spelled 'Killer on Horseback'), aired in February 1956 as an episode of the NBC anthology series Star Stage before the show found its own format.

After the pilot aired on Star Stage, the series failed to secure a spot on the network schedule for 1956 and was instead sold directly to local stations as a syndicated show.

Although the fictional stories were set in Las Vegas, Reno, and Carson City, Nevada, the series was actually filmed by Revue Studios at the Iverson Movie Ranch in Chatsworth, Los Angeles County, California.

To give the series a more authentic feel, some location filming was done on site in Virginia City, Nevada, as well as in Las Vegas.

Lieutenant Rod Blake, the main character played by Rod Cameron, carried a 'Detective Special' revolver.

Robert Armstrong played Sheriff Andy Anderson in 24 episodes, developing a strong working relationship on screen with Rod Cameron's character Blake, while other actors like Don Haggerty, Paul Stader, and Tom Greenway rotated through different sheriff roles across seasons.
