Trivia & behind the scenes

/
Origins

UPA Next is a sequel series to Un paso adelante (One, Two, Three), announced on December 13, 2021 at the Atresplayer Premium Day as one of the platform's projects in development.

Casting

Miguel Ángel Muñoz, Mónica Cruz and Beatriz Luengo were confirmed in March 2022 to reprise their original roles, with Miguel Ángel Muñoz having already expressed his interest in participating in this sequel.

Casting

Pablo Puyol revealed in May 2022 that he would not return to the series and had not been contacted to reprise his character; Globomedia's chief executive officer Javier Pons responded that they had considered his participation but that a series with so many characters could not recover them all, while promising an affectionate nod to his character.

Casting

Chanel Terrero had been initially announced on June 7, 2022 as part of the cast, but ultimately withdrew from the project due to scheduling conflicts.

Casting

Atresplayer organized a public casting called #UPANextChallenge in April 2022 to recruit the series' dance corps through choreographic challenges created by choreographer Toni Espinosa to be performed on TikTok and Instagram; over 500 candidates registered, 27 were selected for the final audition, and five dancers (Pablo Brotons, Diana Wondy, Lucrecia Petraglia, Diego Rey and Valeria Jones) eventually joined the main cast.

Filming

The series began filming in July 2022, with eight episodes planned for this first season.

Reception

In France, the series was acquired by M6 Group for the Salto platform, which aired the first episode as a premiere on December 25, 2022, one hour after the Spanish broadcast; the original series One, Two, Three had already enjoyed great success on M6 in 2004.

Trivia

Among the notable absences from the original cast are Pablo Puyol, Silvia Marty, Raúl Peña, Dafne Fernández, as well as nearly all the actors who played the teachers in the original series.
