Love Flops was announced on March 25, 2022 as an original anime television project produced by Kadokawa Corporation and animated by Passione, directed by Nobuyoshi Nagayama.

The animation featured in the opening theme 'Love? Reason why!!' closely resembles the opening of a certain dating simulation video game.

The elongated take on the first two minutes of the first episode was noted by a reviewer as strongly resembling the opening episode of the anime A Sister's All You Need.

The first ending theme 'Flop Around' features solo parts at the beginning and end that change depending on which character is highlighted in that episode; in episode 7, it became an instrumental version with no vocals, accompanying an ending visual showing only Loverin since the heroines had disappeared from the story at that point.

A special CD version of 'Flop Around' includes a unique arrangement where a single solo part is sung by multiple cast members taking turns one after another.

The series illustrator Ryūdai Ishizaka, who drew the manga adaptation serialized in Young Animal from 2022 to 2023, also illustrated the manga series Iwa-Kakeru! Climbing Girls.

The series' first episode received largely negative reviews from Anime News Network staff during Fall 2022 previews, with critics saying it failed to subvert its ecchi harem clichés or offer meaningful commentary.

Julian Malerman of THEM Anime Reviews heavily panned the full series for not committing to its 'wildly trashy premise' and failing to achieve genre subversion akin to Doki Doki Literature Club, recommending it only to 'the morbidly curious and, preferably, thoroughly inebriated.'

Sentai Filmworks licensed the series for English-speaking regions and streamed it on Hidive, with an English dub produced by Sentai Studios under ADR director John Swasey premiering in November 2023, over a year after the original Japanese broadcast.
