The series received a straight-to-series order from Peacock in April 2022, created by Craig Rosenberg together with Jason Bateman.

Casting

Kaley Cuoco joined the cast in August 2022 as realtor Ava Bartlett, followed by Chris Messina cast as her husband Nathan in October 2022, with Tom Bateman, Liana Liberato, Priscilla Quintana, Natalia Dyer, and Li Jun Li announced the following month.

In March 2024, creator Craig Rosenberg was replaced by Annie Weisman as showrunner for the second season, though he remained an executive producer to pursue other projects.
