Drive was the first TV show in history to have a live Twitter session during an episode, using the account @foxdrive, which still existed years later.

The series was shot entirely in the Los Angeles area, primarily in Santa Clarita, using road footage combined with green-screen technology to simulate a cross-country race.

Because the show was filmed almost entirely around Santa Clarita, it produced geographic inconsistencies, such as mountains and desert visible in highway scenes supposedly set near Gainesville, Florida, where no such terrain exists.

Highway scenes were filmed on an unopened, finished portion of Interstate 210 in Rialto, California between Alder Ave. and Linden Ave., and the Alder Ave. exit sign is clearly visible in several scenes, including the first episode.

Scenes set at the 'Kennedy Space Center' were actually filmed at the Ambassador Auditorium in Pasadena, California.

The two-hour U.S. premiere on April 15, 2007 drew six million viewers, but ratings were considered disappointing by Fox, which cancelled the series just ten days later after only four episodes had aired.

Of the six produced episodes, the final two unaired ones were pulled from a planned July 4, 2007 broadcast, rescheduled for July 13, then cancelled entirely, before being released online on July 15, 2007.

Drive became the first series nominated for an Emmy Award under the organization's new 'broadband' eligibility guidelines, after its title sequence became eligible in the 'Outstanding Visual Effects in a Television Miniseries, Movie, or Special' category once it was streamed online, since the show hadn't aired the six episodes normally required for the standard drama series category.

Star Nathan Fillion later said the show 'would've been a really good TV series if more than two episodes had aired,' calling it a lot of fun that was very short-lived, and joked that he sometimes forgets he was in it.

In the September 2007 issue of Marvel Comics' Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Peter Parker remarks that 'ever since Fox cancelled Drive, it's been one piece of bad luck after another,' referencing the show's cancellation.
