The series is an American adaptation based on the South Korean television series My Fellow Citizens!.

ABC ordered a pilot for the series on March 4, 2022, with Milo Ventimiglia already attached in the lead role.

The show was officially picked up to series on August 22, 2022, but was canceled by ABC after just one season on May 12, 2023.

Ben Younger was brought on to direct and executive produce the pilot, which was written by series creator Julia Cohen.

Milo Ventimiglia joined the project on March 4, 2022 both as the lead actor playing Charlie and as an executive producer.

Catherine Haena Kim was cast as Emma on April 27, 2022, just weeks after Ventimiglia joined the pilot.

Several other lead cast members, including Sarah Wayne Callies, James Saito, Tim Chiou, Freda Foh Shen, and Felisha Terrell, were all announced as joining the pilot on the same day, May 20, 2022.

Principal photography on the pilot began on April 30, 2022, in Los Angeles, California.

On Rotten Tomatoes the series held an 84% approval rating with an average score of 6.5/10 based on 19 critic reviews, while Metacritic gave it a score of 67 out of 100 based on 13 critics.

The series was removed from Hulu on July 1, 2023, shortly after its cancellation and the end of its single season run.
