Origins

The series was announced in August 2022 as a joint project between the BBC and Showtime, with Joe Murtagh writing and creating it and Harry Wootliff and Rachna Suri directing.

Casting

Lead actress Ruth Wilson also served as an executive producer and producer on the series, in addition to starring as Lorna Brady.

Filming

Filming took place on location in Portaferry, County Down in Northern Ireland, as well as in County Mayo in the Republic of Ireland.

Ruth Wilson revealed on the Pilot TV podcast, in an interview with Boyd Hilton, that one of her inspirations for her character's voice was Cora Staunton, a ladies' Gaelic footballer.
