The Chronicle

The series is based on the News from the Edge novel series (including Vampires from Vermont) by St. Louis-based author Mark Sumner.

Series creator Silvio Horta adapted Mark Sumner's book series, whose central concept was that every outlandish picture or story in a tabloid is actually real.

Horta stated his intention was to make a more fun, less dour version of The X-Files.

The show was originally sold to and developed by NBC as a half-hour comedy, which shot a pilot, but the network ultimately passed on it.

After NBC passed on the pilot, the project was picked up by the Sci-Fi Channel, which expanded it into an hour-long comedic monster-of-the-week format similar in tone to Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
