Fastlane developed a cult following after its cancellation, praised for the chemistry between the cast, the action scenes, the humor, and the direction, despite only lasting one season.

Peter Facinelli noted he received fan mail from all over the world, from Brazil to Europe to China, and that the show had a phenomenal afterlife in reruns on networks like G4 and Court TV years after its cancellation.

Tiffani Thiessen believed the show was ahead of its time and blamed part of its cancellation on a Fox scheduling mistake: reruns were shown four days later on MTV, which she felt stole much of the primetime audience.

G4 began rebroadcasting the complete series on August 14, 2005.

When Warner Home Video released Fastlane: The Complete Series on DVD in 2008, the soundtrack was significantly altered due to licensing issues, and episodes were cropped to 4:3 format instead of the original 16:9 widescreen broadcast format.
