The show was created in 2018 by digital influencers Eduardo Camargo and Filipe Oliveira, who host the Diva Depressão YouTube channel, and is produced by DiaTV.

The program's title and format are a satire of the American reality show RuPaul's Drag Race, with the hosts openly stating this inspiration.

The third season was originally planned for 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, finally premiering in October 2021.

The second season's first episode premiered at a launch event at the Cinemark in Shopping Eldorado in São Paulo, attended by the cast and fans.

The fourth season's premiere was also held at a Cinemark, this time at Shopping Cidade São Paulo, with five theater rooms reserved for fans and guests.

The season 5 finale, held on January 19, 2024, took place live at Vibra São Paulo with a performance by singer Pabllo Vittar, and all 4,000 tickets sold out.

In 2023, for the first time in the show's history, the competition featured 12 contestants instead of the usual 10 from previous years.

Season 6, subtitled 'Uma Nova Chance,' brought back 12 former contestants for another chance to win the prize and the 'Coroa de Cola Quente,' with its finale again held at Vibra São Paulo featuring a performance by Karol Conká.

Palloma Tamirys, winner of season 6, became a judge for season 7, replacing Renata Santti who went on maternity leave.
