The series is an adaptation of the 2017 novel of the same name by Almudena Grandes.

The show was written by José Luis Martín and directed by Joan Noguera.

It was produced by RTVE, Diagonal (Banijay Iberia), and DeAPlaneta, with participation from Netflix.

Filming began in January 2022 in Segovia and continued in June 2022 in Madrid, with additional locations in Guadalajara.

The series premiered on Spain's La 1 on 19 April 2023, and after its first two episodes aired on the channel, the complete series became available on Netflix starting 28 April 2023.

The show's audience declined steadily throughout its run, hitting its lowest point at episode 9, which led producers to change its weekly broadcast day and push back its time slot, removing it from prime time.
