Trivia & behind the scenes

/
Origins

The series is based on the American show Law & Order: Criminal Intent, itself created by Dick Wolf and René Balcer for Universal Television, and follows the 'ripped from the headlines' storytelling style of the original Law & Order franchise.

Origins

In June 2023, the show was given a 10-episode series order, and it is produced by Lark Productions and Cameron Pictures.

Filming

Several directors worked on the first season, with Holly Dale directing the 1st, 3rd and 9th episodes, alongside David Wellington, Peter Stebbings, Sudz Sutherland, Rachel Leiterman, Winnifred Jong, Sharon Lewis and David Straiton.

References

The episode 'Crack Reporter' was partly inspired by the real-life 2013 crack cocaine scandal involving former Toronto mayor Rob Ford.

Reception

The series premiered on February 22, 2024, on Citytv and became the #1 prime-time drama of the year in Canada, drawing 1.1 million viewers for its first episode.

Trivia

The show's launch reshuffled Citytv's Law & Order Thursday lineup, pushing the original Law & Order to air an hour earlier at 7 p.m. ET to make room, while Special Victims Unit and Organized Crime stayed at 9 and 10 p.m. ET.

Trivia

For its second season, the series moved to a new 10 p.m. ET Thursday timeslot, previously occupied by Found, which itself shifted to 7 p.m. ET, airing three hours ahead of its NBC broadcast.

Casting

For the fourth season, announced in April 2026, Young will not return, and Luke Kirby will join the cast as Detective Sergeant John Darcy.
