Among Us is based on the 2018 video game of the same name by Innersloth, adapted into an adult animated science fiction comedy series by Owen Dennis, creator of Infinity Train.

The series was first announced in June 2023, and its first teaser was revealed at Summer Game Fest in 2024 alongside Innersloth's involvement announcement.

By October 2024, creator Owen Dennis stated the series was 'all finished and wrapped in a bow', meaning production had fully wrapped.

The main voice cast was announced in two waves: Randall Park, Ashley Johnson, Yvette Nicole Brown, Elijah Wood, Dan Stevens, Liv Hewson and Kimiko Glenn joined in March 2024, followed by Patton Oswalt, Debra Wilson, Phil LaMarr and Wayne Knight in April 2024.

Debra Wilson not only voices the character Yellow but also provides the voice of the Skeld's PA system.

Despite being initially slated for Paramount+, the series lost its distributor at one point, leading Innersloth to publicly clarify on their 2026 roadmap that the show was 'not dead' after a long silence.

The series was quietly released on Paramount+ on June 5, 2026, just hours before its official announcement at Summer Game Fest 2026, with the first episode also made available for free on YouTube.

Critical reception was largely positive, with Game Informer's Charles Harte praising that the show 'is fun, not obsessed with game references' and Gizmodo calling it 'a delightful mix of comedy and horror', while Polygon and GamesRadar+ gave more negative reviews criticizing it as an uninteresting adaptation of the game.
