Guardians of the Dafeng

The series is adapted from a web novel of the same name by author 賣報小郎君 (Paperboy), which was completed on the Qidian platform in August 2021. After its completion, it received an audio drama adaptation in addition to being adapted into anime, manga, and a live-action series.

Filming of the series began on July 19, 2023, and filming was announced to be completed on December 12 of the same year, with New Classics Media overseeing the production.

The majority of the series was filmed at Hengdian studios, while some exterior scenes were filmed in Xinjiang.

The series exceeded 30,000 points on Tencent Video's internal popularity index and topped several paid and trending sales charts on the platform.

According to KuYun data, the series achieved the highest daily viewership rate of 1.1642% on average with a peak of 1.2706%, ranking first for 26 consecutive days during the evening broadcast period on all Chinese terrestrial channels.

According to Yunhe Data statistics, the series topped the most-watched list across the network for over 16 days, and viewership exceeded 2 billion views by June 2025 according to analyses by Yunhe, KuYun, and QuestMobile.

The international broadcast rights of the series were sold to 13 countries, translated into 14 languages, and aired on platforms such as Disney+, YouTube, Rakuten Viki, Viu, Astro, and TVB in regions including North America, Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.

A short online film titled 大奉打更人之世間無我這般人 derived from the character Yang Qian Huan appearing in the original novel and series was broadcast on Tencent Video on January 29, 2025.

On November 3, 2025, approval was announced for the production of a second season of the series, and on June 25, 2026, a conceptual poster for the second season was revealed during the Tencent Video annual conference, revealing its English title The Guardian of Fate.
