Trivia & behind the scenes

/
Origins

On Call is Dick Wolf's first scripted streaming television series and the first half-hour drama he has produced, marking a departure from his usual broadcast network work.

Origins

The show was originally ordered by IMDb TV in May 2021, but during the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike it was revealed the series would actually release on Amazon Prime Video instead, after IMDb TV was rebranded as Amazon Freevee.

Casting

Lori Loughlin's role as Lieutenant Bishop marks her first major television role following her involvement in the Varsity Blues college admissions scandal.

Casting

The role of Lieutenant Bishop was originally offered to and accepted by Michael Beach, but he was ultimately unable to join the series due to scheduling conflicts.

Casting

Executive producer Eriq La Salle ended up taking on the role of Sergeant Lasman himself after other actors were considered, because he wanted the opportunity to act in, produce, and direct the same series.

Casting

Chicago Fire star Monica Raymund appears in the premiere as Officer Maria Delgado, a character who is killed off less than three minutes into the episode; creator Tim Walsh explained they wanted audiences to initially believe the show was about her character.

Filming

Filming took place on location in Long Beach, California, the city where the series is set, and was underway by May 2023.

Filming

The production mixed traditional television cameras with experimental found-footage formats, including bodycams, dashcams, and cell phone cameras.

Music

The score was composed by Atli Örvarsson, who also worked on Dick Wolf's Chicago and FBI franchises.

Reception

Despite receiving mixed reviews, On Call became the most-watched show on Prime Video in the United States within a week of its release and was the tenth most-watched original streaming program for the week of January 20–26, 2025.

Trivia

After the series was canceled by Prime Video in May 2025, it was pitched to other streaming platforms, including Peacock, with discussions also including the possibility of turning On Call into a media franchise with a spin-off series.
