Misora Kanata is a first-year student on the Takanosaki High School cheerleading team. She won a national championship in middle school, but can’t jump after a mistake in a competition. She befriends Suzuha, Shion, Anna, Onka, and Megumi to form the PoMPoMs. Their new team goes beyond cheerleading to reach the hearts of the people they cheer on. They might just change the world!

Origins

The series was announced in November 2023 as a joint original production by DMM.com and P.A. Works, with Kōdai Kakimoto serving as both director and series composition writer.

Casting

The original character designs were created by Tomomi Takada and then adapted into anime designs by Kanami Sekiguchi.

Filming

An advance screening of the first three episodes was held on March 17, 2024 at Takasaki Denkikan in Takasaki, ahead of the show's broadcast.

Filming

A joint advance screening event for this series and 'Mayonaka Punch' was held on June 23, 2024 at the DMM.com headquarters event space in Roppongi, Tokyo.

Trivia

The production team scouted real locations in Takasaki, notably the Takasaki Chuo Ginza shopping arcade, aiming for a highly faithful recreation of everyday scenery in Gunma Prefecture.

References

The temple that serves as the PoMPoMs' activity base, Joりん-ji, is modeled on the real 'Jorin-ji' temple in Numata City, which saw many fans visit after the broadcast.

Kanata's school, Takanosaki High School, is modeled on the real Gunma Prefectural Takasaki High School.

Reception

Following the broadcast, a representative of the Numata City Tourism Association told the local newspaper Jomo Shimbun that the series helped attract a different type of visitor than before, and both Takasaki and Numata were selected for the first time in the 2025 edition of the Anime Tourism Association's list of '88 Japanese Anime Pilgrimage Sites Worth Visiting'.

Music

Yuzu member Yūjin Kitagawa participated in the project as music producer for his first-ever anime music production, composing and writing lyrics for both the opening theme 'Cheer for You!' and the ending theme 'With'.

Music

The character voice actresses themselves perform as the in-universe group PoMPoMs for the theme songs and insert songs.

References

Director Kōdai Kakimoto also directed the anime adaptation of Katana Maidens: Toji No Miko and later became director of the BanG Dream! anime series starting from its second season.
