High Country

High Country was created by Marcia Gardner and John Ridley, the same duo behind the prison drama Wentworth.

The eight-part first series was shot in just 36 days, with filming commencing in April 2023.

The series was filmed in the Victorian Alps in the small town of Jamieson, a region rarely captured on screen.

The BBC acquired the UK broadcast rights, airing the series on BBC One and BBC Two in double bills over four weeks, with the full series made available on BBC iPlayer after the first episode aired.

Critics praised Leah Purcell's performance as Sergeant Andie Whitford, though some reviewers noted the crime drama followed familiar genre conventions about people disappearing into the wilderness.

Foxtel CEO Graeme Mason described High Country as being sure to become 'a landmark television series'.

For the second season, titled 'What Lies Beneath', new cast members Brendan Cowell, Ryan Corr and Nadine Garner joined the show, announced on 13 January 2026.
