Initially, the project was conceived as a combination of "robot anime and romantic comedy," but it was rejected due to the reasoning that "robots don't sell these days," and it was reworked into "SF + romantic comedy."

General director Takamatsu Shinji requested character design and illustrations from manga artist Kubo no Uchie Eisaku because Takamatsu was a huge fan of his work. Kubo no Uchie received the character design request approximately 7-8 years before the production announcement.

This work is, so to speak, a "miraculous production," as it was a dormant project that never made it to production but was unexpectedly revived.

The scriptwriting process proceeded in a catch-and-throw format where Takamatsu Shinji created the framework and Ueno Kimiko expanded upon it, and since the overall structure followed a "send-forward" format where one episode was completed before moving to the next, no one knew the ending until partway through.

Kubo no Uchie Eisaku completed a large quantity of character illustrations in about a week, and upon seeing them, Takamatsu felt the intensity of Kubo no Uchie's passion for the work.

This work adopted a production method in which screen layouts are designed by first drawing with 3D CG and then producing the animation.

This is Fuhata Ai's first time serving as the opening theme performer for an anime, with Astra Noctis.

From June 29 to December 13, 2024, character panels and specially designed station name signs for Astra Noctis were displayed at each station on the Setagaya Line, and an original artwork exhibition featuring setting materials and corrected original drawings by character designer and chief animation director Aoki Maho was held at the former Ozaki Theodora residence.
